Paterson Church Honors 50 Local Healthcare Workers

In a heartfelt ceremony of appreciation, the First Seventh-day Adventist Church of Paterson on Saturday, March 30, 2024, honored over 50 healthcare workers for their selfless dedication amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic on their Community Guest Day.

Each healthcare worker was recognized with a personalized plaque, a customized painting, and a copy of the Great Controversy. From doctors and nurses to technicians and administrative staff, representatives from various medical fields were acknowledged for their unwavering commitment to serving the community during unprecedented times.

Pastor Donald C. Francis, Senior Pastor, in a moving sermon, underscored the profound impact of appreciating our journey with God along the way, not just the destination. Andre Sayegh, Mayor of Paterson, referring to the leadership of the church commended, “This is visionary leadership.” He continued, “Healthcare workers … make sacrifices because service is their purpose and we have developed a deeper appreciation of our healthcare workers as a result of the pandemic.”

Dr. Cynthia Victor-Prophet, a gastroenterologist, one of the awardees, said, “I feel blessed and honored for the recognition. I thoroughly enjoyed the service and am planning on coming back to visit.”

After the ceremony, the honorees were treated to a scrumptious luncheon where they connected with members of the church and their colleagues. In honoring over fifty healthcare workers, the First Seventh-day Adventist Church of Paterson not only expressed gratitude but also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting those who have dedicated their lives to the service of others. As the world continues its journey toward recovery, may the sacrifices of these frontline heroes never be forgotten, and may their example inspire acts of kindness and compassion forgenerations to come.
