Vote! It's Okay...

by Jackson M. Doggette, Jr., Esq

Jesus said, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God’s” Mark 12:17.

Every eligible citizen should to vote in the upcoming midterm elections. Many of our members have been misguided by the notion Ellen G. White speaks against Seventh-day Adventist members voting. This is inaccurate. We have posted a few quotes on the conference website to help educate the members regarding this issue. Please make this link prominently available in your bulletins, websites, and announcements:

Also, we have posted election information for every jurisdiction in our conference so members can educate themselves regarding the issues at the same link:

This information is vital as there are some deadlines for registering to vote.

Never in the history of the United States of America has the righteous actions of its citizens been more needed to stem a rising tide of injustice, immorality, disunity, and the loss of individual freedom. Many deceptions are gullibly accepted as support for religious convictions when the effect is exactly the opposite. "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works” 2 Corinthians 11:14, 15. We must do our part to ensure proper checks and balances or our democracy could suffer an incurable blow.

"How can Christian men and women tolerate this evil? …In our favored land, every voter has some voice in determining what laws shall control the nation. Should not that influence and that vote be cast on the side of temperance and virtue? …We need not expect that God will work a miracle to bring about this reform, and thus remove the necessity for our exertion. We ourselves must grapple with this giant foe, our motto, No compromise and no cessation of our efforts till the victory is gained” GW387.

As a 501(c)(3) organization, our churches are not permitted to intervene in any political campaign on behalf or in opposition to any candidate for elective public office. So, our focus is to encourage our members to register to voteeducate themselves on the issues in their jurisdiction (, and VOTE!

There are some things our churches can do to help inform our members. Contact the Public Affairs and Religious Liberty office if you need information to help you in that regard.

God will perform no miracle to do for us what we can do for ourselves.
