AEC Communication Team Attends Annual Conference
Members of Allegheny East Conference’s Communication Department, LaTasha Hewitt (Director) and Aimee Washington (Communication Specialist), recently attended the Society of Adventist Communicators Conference, held at La Sierra University in Riverside, California, from October 16–19.
The annual conference brought together communication professionals, students, and ministry leaders from across the North American Division for three days of workshops, keynote sessions, networking, and creative collaboration.
Highlights included engaging presentations such as “Your Toughest Audience Is You: Communicating Self-Compassion”by Tanya R. Cochran, “The Harvest in Hollywood Is Plentiful, but the Influencers Are Few” by Merlinda Balmas, and “Leading with Clarity Even When Everything Gets Lost in Translation” by Seth Yelorda. Attendees also enjoyed breakout sessions covering writing, photography, podcasting, social media, design, and advanced communication strategy.
In addition to professional development, the event provided opportunities for fun and fellowship, from food truck dining at the Opening Reception & Exhibits to the Festival of Sabbath worship experience and Awards Banquet celebration.
AEC’s representatives didn’t leave empty handed. Both Hewitt and Washington won prizes during the Tech Talk seminar. Aimee received a mini Rode microphone, while LaTasha took home the grand prize: a 6K Blackmagic Studio Camera.
The conference left both communicators inspired, equipped, and energized to continue using media and storytelling to advance the mission of the church.
