First Elder Publishes Book for Calvary School Fundraiser

For decades, Jeffery Thomas has exemplified a life rooted in faith, service, and an unwavering commitment to community. As Head Elder of Calvary Seventh-day Adventist Church in Newport News, Virginia, he has guided the congregation through seasons of spiritual growth and fellowship.

Before his years of church leadership, Elder Thomas honorably served 25 years in the United States Navy, retiring as a Master Chief Petty Officer—the highest rank among enlisted personnel. His military career reflects a lifelong pattern of discipline, sacrifice, and dedication—qualities that continue to define his ministry today.

His commitment to Seventh-day Adventist Christian education began on a personal level through his daughter, Jaslon's experience at Calvary Adventist School. What began as a parent’s investment in one child’s future soon grew into a broader mission. Rather than stepping away after her graduation, Elder Thomas deepened his support for the school, recognizing that Christian education is not merely a benefit for individual students but a foundation for the future of the church.

Over the years, he has remained a consistent advocate and supporter, helping make it possible for students to attend and graduate, many of whom might not otherwise have had the opportunity.

That same passion has found new expression through his recently released devotional book, Final Redemption: Hymns and Scriptures to Prepare Us for the Return of Jesus. More than a literary work, the book serves as an extension of his ministry – blending Scripture, hymn history, and spiritual reflection to draw readers into a deeper relationship with Christ.

The book was released in connection with Calvary Adventist School’s annual HymnFest, a cherished tradition that brings together believers from across the region. During this special event, participants worship through beloved hymns while learning the rich spiritual stories behind them. HymnFest continues to serve as both a unifying worship experience and a vital fundraiser for the school.

In a remarkable demonstration of generosity, Elder Thomas has committed to donating all proceeds from the sale of his book to support Calvary Adventist School. His contribution helps ensure that future generations of students will have access to a Christ-centered education.

Final Redemption invites readers on a spiritual journey – from reflection and renewal to joyful anticipation of Christ’s return. It stands as both an inspirational resource and a testimony to a life devoted to faith and service.

Through his leadership, generosity, and steadfast commitment, Elder Thomas continues to leave a lasting impact on his church, his community, and the lives of those he supports.
