CAS Capstone Project “Grandparents Day Luncheon” is a Great Success!

Three days each week the middle school students at Calvary Adventist School participate in an enrichment class. During this time various career topics and vocational experiences are introduced to assist students in thinking about future career and life choices. Each unit ends with a capstone authentic assessment where students perform real-world tasks to demonstrate application of skills learned.

The September 14 Grandparents Day luncheon was the capstone project. All seniors of our church were invited to this event. After studying food safety, event planning, and restaurant operations, the students served as waiters, servers, hosts, and greeters.

Every student performed their task with finesse and care for their assigned table or area of operation. The more than 70 attendees raved about how well the students performed. Several even wanted to give tips to their assigned waiters! The students also honored Elder Jeffery Thomas, head elder at Calvary church. He wrote a devotional book and has donated all proceeds to the school—to date almost $8,000!

A great day indeed. Special thanks to the member caterers and the church Senior Activities fund for sponsoring this awesome event! The students are excited about our next enrichment unit “Horticulture and Gardening 101”.
