Cedars of Lebanon Members Volunteer at School Luncheon
On November 20th, members of Cedars of Lebanon Church had the fortunate opportunity to be a part of the James Monroe Elementary School Parent and Student Luncheon. Volunteers of the church assisted in decorating the school's cafeteria in preparation for families to enjoy themselves at an early Thanksgiving meal and the arrival of the season. It allowed the church to meet and greet families that had been affected by the government shutdown. “The goal of our church is to be intentional in all parts of the community. It gives us the opportunity to serve in the academic institutions within our urban areas of Virginia, along with planting some seeds of Jesus into the hearts of many,” says Pastor David Thorpe.
Earlier this year, leaders from Cedars were able to connect with Principal Jade Fleming and Assistant Principal Nicole Griffin to establish a faith-based partnership with the school. James Monroe Elementary, located in Norfolk, VA, consists of 70 staff members and 290 scholars (students). Ms. Flemming and Griffin are wonderful administrators and have an amazing staff who truly care about the education and well-being of the young community in Norfolk.
