Berea Hosts Community Health Fair

Baltimore, MD – The Berea Temple Church once again opened its arms—and its street—to the surrounding community with its vibrant and uplifting Community Health Fair, held on Saturday, April 26th. With a clear focus on health, wellness, and spiritual enrichment, the event proved to be a powerful blend of ministry and outreach.
The day began on a high note with a dynamic worship celebration, led by church pastor Maurice Taylor. The featured speaker, Dr. Anthony Medley, Health Ministries Director for the Allegheny East Conference, inspired attendees with a message centered on holistic health and the importance of caring for body, mind, and spirit.
Following the service, the block outside Berea Temple transformed into a bustling hub of activity as the health fair officially launched from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. With the street blocked off and tables neatly arranged, music filled the air courtesy of the lively DJ Marty, who drew neighbors and passersby to the celebration of health and community.
The fair offered a wide array of health services and educational opportunities. Community members lined up for health checkups, consultations with medical professionals on diabetes and hypertension, and even specialized carotid artery screenings. Attendees were also able to participate in a short but informative class on preparing healthy meals—offering practical, easy-to-follow tips for nutritious living.
One of the biggest hits of the day was the vegan food tasting, featuring over 15 diverse and delicious plant-based dishes. Ms. Antoinette Peel, a returning community member, enthusiastically shared, “I’m back this year because of the vegan options they had last year. I never knew vegan food tasted so good!” Her sentiment echoed throughout the crowd, with many expressing appreciation for the flavorful and health-conscious menu.
In addition to food and health services, the fair offered a fresh produce giveaway to ensure attendees could take home nutritious options for their families. Another major attraction was the sneaker giveaway, generously provided by KickDreams United, giving youth and adults alike a reason to smile and step out in confidence.
A special prayer corner offered a quiet space for reflection and spiritual support, while literature giveaways provided educational materials on health, wellness, and faith. Despite the joyful atmosphere, nature had its say—a sudden downpour interrupted the festivities, prompting organizers to swiftly transition the event into the church’s fellowship hall. The change in venue did nothing to dampen the spirit of the day.
One attendee was overheard saying, “I’m just thankful the church is engaging the community like this.” That sentiment captured the heart of Berea Temple’s mission: to be a beacon of love, health, and hope.
The Berea Temple Community Health Fair was more than an event; it was a testament to what happens when faith meets service. Even rain couldn’t wash away the impact made in the lives of those who came.
