Delmar ACS Volunteers at Warehouse for Hurricane Helene Survivors

Two members of the Delaware/Maryland (Delmar) Community Service group recently volunteered time at a warehouse for Hurricane Helene survivors in Statesville, NC. Katra Williams, a member at the Mt Carmel Church in Harrington, DE, donated 3 weeks of her time, and Elder Cornelius Ruley, a member at Mt Zion Miracle Church in Wilmington, DE, donated 2 weeks of his time.  The warehouse was fully operational with other volunteers from Texas, North Carolina, and surrounding areas as they organized essential items for those working to rebuild their lives months after the storm.

They both made a direct impact on individuals and families in need, but were impacted, as well. Elder Ruley was impressed with the youth who volunteered from the Keene Church in Texas. "The providence and power of God awakening in my life (2 Timothy 1:6) and recruiting more volunteers to serve."  Katra states, "While I was working in the warehouse, I learned a lot, and was especially treminded that ministry doesn't always happen from the pulpit.”

Every day they worked to sort, organize, and prepare supplies such as food, clothing, or emergency resources.  “It reminded me that even behind the scenes, work is just as important as being on the front line because every act of service, big or small, reflects Christ's love to the community.  So, I tip my hat to the men and women who devoted their time and efforts to make such a sacrifice for others.  I hope that more people would take advantage of such an opportunity,” says Katra

This recovery process is ongoing, and the warehouse plays a vital role in storing and distributing food, clothing, hygiene products, and other essentials. As demand remains high, they still need more hands to help sort, pack, and organize these critical supplies for delivery to affected areas.

If anyone is interested, you can still volunteer until May 31st. by contacting Yalanda Williams directly at 704-502-1051 or email: warehousevolunteers@ncvoad.org

Thanks again to Katra and Cornelius for considering this opportunity to serve.  They have shown that there is a source of hope and help for our neighbors in need, and they have helped to provide that service.
