Faith, Identity & Truth: a Transformative Youth Weekend at Salem
On July 17–18, Salem Haitian Seventh-day Adventist Church had the privilege of welcoming Pastor Patrick Graham for a powerful Youth Weekend centered on the theme "Faith, Identity & Truth." Throughout the weekend, young people, parents, and church members were challenged to grow deeper in their relationship with Christ while engaging in meaningful conversations about faith, identity, and today's cultural issues.
The weekend began Friday evening with a special closed youth session designed to create a safe and welcoming environment where our young people could openly share their thoughts, questions, and experiences. The room was filled as youth from Salem gathered to discuss topics such as Christian identity, relationships, peer pressure, purpose, and navigating life as followers of Christ. Pastor Graham encouraged honest dialogue, allowing every participant to feel respected, heard, and valued while pointing them back to God's Word as the ultimate source of truth.
On Sabbath morning, Pastor Graham delivered a powerful sermon entitled "Identity Crisis." Through biblical teaching and practical application, he reminded the congregation that our identity is not defined by culture, social media, or the opinions of others but by who we are in Jesus Christ. The message challenged every listener—from our youngest members to our oldest—to examine where they find their identity and to stand confidently in God's purpose for their lives.
Following fellowship lunch, the church reconvened for an interactive afternoon workshop that brought together youth, young adults, parents, and the entire church family. During this session, Pastor Graham addressed the topic of the LGBTQ+ community and discussed what the Bible teaches while emphasizing the importance of responding with both truth and Christ-like love. The discussion was thoughtful, respectful, and deeply engaging. Many of our young people courageously asked honest questions, shared personal perspectives, and felt genuinely heard. Parents also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in these conversations alongside their children in a safe, biblical setting.
One of the greatest blessings of the weekend was Pastor Graham's authentic and compassionate approach to teaching Scripture. He created an atmosphere where difficult conversations could take place without fear or judgment, always pointing everyone back to the love, grace, and truth found in Jesus Christ.
As the weekend came to a close, there was a shared sense that God had done something special among us. Seeds were planted, hearts were encouraged, and families left better equipped to continue conversations about faith and identity at home. Salem's Youth Weekend was more than just a series of meetings—it was an opportunity for our church family to grow together, strengthen our faith, and reaffirm our commitment to living out God's truth with both conviction and compassion.
