Pastoral Interns Gather for Iron Sharpening

The retreat was a meaningful and refreshing time for all of us. Each morning began with blessed devotional messages from passionate pastors who shared their personal experiences in ministry and reminded us of the importance of staying rooted in Christ while serving others. Throughout the retreat we also had several professional development sessions led by experienced instructors. In these sessions, we discussed practical aspects of pastoral ministry and learned tools that will help us grow as leaders and shepherds.

In addition to the learning sessions, we participated in team-building activities at Arnold’s Center, which helped us strengthen relationships, build trust among the newly hired pastors and ordainees, and have a lot of fun. One of the highlights was going through the Working Genius assessment together, which helped us better understand our personal strengths and weaknesses and how we can serve more effectively in our churches. We also had thoughtful group discussions where we wrestled with difficult pastoral questions and shared perspectives from our different ministry contexts. Along the way we enjoyed delicious meals and lunch boxes together, which created many moments of fellowship and encouragement.

Overall, the retreat was a wonderful opportunity for growth, reflection, and connection. As one pastor shared, "I wish I had had these tools earlier so that I could have avoided many problems.” Another commented, “We should do this more often.” We are grateful for the chance to learn, be encouraged, and continue preparing for faithful service.
