Salem Haitian Church Hosts Community Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Day
Under the dedicated leadership of Dr. Lamercie Brasier, Health Director of Salem Haitian Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Health Department successfully launched a Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer Screening Day on May 27, 2026, bringing vital healthcare services directly to the Essex County community.
With a heart for service and wellness, Salem Haitian SDA Church opened its doors to the public, inviting residents from across Essex County to take advantage of free and accessible cancer screenings. This impactful initiative reflected the church’s ongoing commitment not only to spiritual growth, but also to the physical and emotional well-being of the community.
Salem Haitian SDA Church, under the pastoral leadership of Dr. Wilfrid Louis Jean, continues to be a beacon of hope, compassion, and outreach. Through programs such as this, the church strives to meet the practical needs of individuals while sharing the love of Christ through meaningful service and community engagement.
To make this event possible, Salem’s Health Department partnered with University Hospital in Newark, NJ and the Rutgers Cancer Institute. University Hospital provided its state-of-the-art mobile screening bus, equipped with advanced technology to offer breast and cervical cancer screenings in a comfortable and professional environment.
The event was staffed by an outstanding team of doctors, nurses, technicians, and healthcare professionals who were present throughout the day to guide and assist participants with care and compassion. One of the most impactful aspects of the initiative was its accessibility: no prescription was needed, both insured and uninsured individuals were welcomed, and the screenings were open to the public.
Beyond providing critical healthcare services, the event also created an opportunity for fellowship and connection. Members of the Salem Health department warmly welcomed guests, and shared information about the various ministries and services offered at Salem. It was a beautiful example of ministry in action, caring for both the body and the soul.
Salem Haitian SDA Church remains committed to making a positive impact in the community through health education, outreach, and service initiatives that empower individuals to prioritize their health and well-being. The success of this event stands as a testament to what can be accomplished when faith, compassion, and community partnerships come together for a greater purpose.
