Delmar Community Service Hosts Annual Program
The Delmar Community Service Federation held its yearly Federation program hosted by the First Millsboro Church in Millsboro, DE. The program began with a 15-minute song service, led by the CN Sample Gospel Mass Choir, with one of the favorite songs being “Cooling Water.” Pastor Jajuan Sanders opened with a devotional message encouraging the community service mission to serve the poor and hurting in Christ’s name and to continue to serve others. Each community service leader shared the work their church is doing for the community, and wonderful ideas were learned. Once the regular preliminaries were done, we broke out into 5 separate seminars. Pastor Jackson M. Doggette, Jr., Esquire, was the presenter for the do’s and don’ts for the church to know about immigration and how to handle situations should they arise. Coach Sullivan Phillips talked to the youth about setting goals, relationships, their interests, self-esteem, who they really are, bullying, and other things that teens encounter.
Sharon Johnson discussed the Wellness of the Mind about our eating habit and exercise. Corp Glen Campbell shared information when stopped by a police officer about the do’s and don’ts and about police brutality. Jeff Peirce’s seminar shared information about referring for drugs and alcohol, the signs to look for in a person, and the desire to want to be helped. The federation ended with a solo from Jazmin Salaberrios from Bethuel SDA Church inDover, DE, singing “We Shall Behold Him.” Bagged lunches were given as each person left. Thanks to the kitchen helpers, Dawne Lowther, Della Street, and Jeanette Hall, for preparing the bags with vegetarian chicken salad made by Crystal Thompkins-Jones, crackers, fruits, chips, water, and juice.
