AEC Leaders and Pastors Participate in March on Wall Street

Dr. Kinlock and several AEC pastors recently joined hundreds of faith leaders in New York for the March on Wall Street. Normally held in Washington, D.C. on Aug 28th to commemorate the original March on Washington, the annual protest continues Dr. King's tradition of addressing justice issues in the nation. Demonstrators gathered to protest recent policy choices that transfer trillions in tax cuts to the wealthy by paring critical social safety-net programs like Medicaid, SNAP food stamps, and educational funds for poor students and families. Dr. Kinlock shared, "As people of faith, we have a responsibility to the poor and vulnerable in our world—when their welfare is made even less secure, we must speak out against it!" Alongside the president were AEC Public Affairs & Religious Liberty Director Attorney Jackson Doggette, Drs. Colby Matlock and Keenan Tyler, and Pastor J. Alfred Johnson. Protesters gathered in Manhattan and marched to Wall Street, bringing a message against the economic culture of corporate greed at the expense of the poor. Pastor Tyler remarked, "The church can't sit on the sidelines but needs to actively engage on these important moral issues." Prophet Isaiah reminds us, "Learn to do well; seek justice, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow." Isaiah 1:17.
