Elders Retreat Focuses on “Ministry Matters”

Elders from across the Allegheny East Conference recently came together for a transformative elders' retreat focused on spiritual renewal, leadership growth, and mission effectiveness. Led by Ministerial Director Dr. Ronald Williams, Jr, the retreat centered around the theme of resetting the heart, rebuilding the leader, and refocusing the mission, the weekend provided participants with practical training, meaningful worship experiences, and opportunities for reflection.

The retreat opened Friday evening with worship, an inspiring message titled Renewed Before the Battle, and a Ministry Matters energy audit designed to help leaders assess their personal and spiritual well-being. The evening concluded with a reflective prayer experience that encouraged attendees to reconnect with God’s purpose for their ministry.

Sabbath programming emphasized leadership development through sessions on role clarity, power-shift leadership, sustainable leadership rhythms, counseling and boundaries, and mentoring future leaders. Each presentation equipped elders with tools to strengthen their service to local congregations while maintaining balance and effectiveness in ministry.

On Sunday, attention turned to the broader mission of the church with discussions on supporting pastors and their families, evaluating church health, and intentionally leading congregations toward growth and discipleship. The retreat concluded with the inspiring session Rise Up and Build, challenging participants to return to their churches renewed, equipped, and ready to advance God’s work.

Through worship, fellowship, training, and prayer, the Allegheny East Conference Elders Retreat served as a powerful reminder of the vital role elders play in strengthening churches and advancing the mission of Christ.
