Mt. Olivet Church (Camden) Reopens after Six Years
After six years of prayer, planning, and anticipation, church members, community leaders, and guests gathered at Mt. Olivet on Sabbath, June 6, to celebrate its Grand Re-Opening Worship Service. The spirit-filled occasion marked the culmination of years of faith and perseverance, as attendees came together to dedicate the new facility and give thanks for God's leading.
The celebration began with a baptismal service, symbolizing both new beginnings and spiritual growth. The individuals baptized were part of the church’s compassion project evangelistic series held in 2025. The program featured a “Welcome Home” presentation that reflected on the six-year journey leading to the grand opening, followed by a call to worship and an uplifting season of praise and worship.
Bruce and Celia Archie warmly welcomed members and visitors, while several distinguished guests shared congratulatory remarks and words of encouragement. Among those offering greetings were AEC Vice President for Administration Gary Wimbish, Bay Area Leader Pastor Jimmy Ferguson, and former pastors Frank Legette and Dr. Colby Matlock.
Special recognition was also given by AEC Communication Director LaTasha Hewitt to the communication team for keeping the church connected virtually while they were out of their church. Pastor Robert Best also recognized several ministry leaders who supported the vision from its inception to completion.
A prayer of praise and intercession united the congregation in gratitude, followed by a time of worship through giving. The service continued with the reading of Exodus 24:15–18, setting the stage for the morning message. The sermon, entitled “Worth the Weight,” delivered by Pastor Robert, challenged attendees to reflect on God's faithfulness throughout seasons of waiting and preparation. After an appeal was made, several attendees took their stand for Bible Studies, baptism, and/or prayer.
As the service concluded, members and guests gathered in the fellowship hall for a meal.
More from that day can be seen on a future episode of AEC Today.
